The spousal unit bought a new refrigerator yesterday! I was not thrilled, because I wanted a new stove. I hate our stove. It is electric, with coil burners. I have done everything humanly possible to keep the reflector trays clean, to no avail. I buy replacements about twice a year, or when we are having a party and I am worried about what people think. My mother-in-law bought the stove and the refrigerator before we bought the house, and she went cheap. The oven doesn't self-clean, and has no window, light or timer. So, if I were to get a new kitchen appliance, I want a stove. I already know which one, too. I would like to have a stove with an induction glass surface, but the day I spend $3,000 on a stove is the day I hit the lottery. A radiant glass surface one will be just fine.
I was excited about the old refrigerator until I lived with it a while. That's when I discovered that the side-by-side models are a pain in the rear end. At least, this one was. It wasn't as big as they usually are, and I was always having to take something out in order to reach something in the back.
Steve brought the fridge in, and I had to help clean out the old one. Oh, my. I had no idea we were such pigs, although I did suspect it. I didn't think it was going to fit, but he took a saw and made some adjustments to the cabinets, and I am trying not to look very closely. I am pretty sure I will never have to worry about cleaning behind it, because I don't think it will ever come out. It is enormous, stainless steel, with a fancy digital display. But, the most exciting feature? An ice maker! I am 42 years old, and I have never lived in a house with an ice maker! The plumber came yesterday and ran the water to the new fridge, and I have ice! I heard it dropping into the bucket all night. The dog kept looking to see what was going on in the kitchen. Never again will I have to borrow ice from my mother-in-law, or open the freezer only to be confronted by empty ice trays. It almost makes life worth living.
One serious flaw with the new fridge is the inability of magnets to stick to the front. Huh. I have a lot of magnets - I always buy one as a souvenier when traveling. I am not sure what I will do with all these magnets, but the front of the new fridge is as smooth as, well, as smooth as stainless steel. I am concerned about finger prints, but maybe I can make sure the lights are dimmed when we have company.
I think I will go look at the ice again.

Now that it's all over, what did you really do yesterday that's worth mentioning? ~Coleman Cox

I covet the in-the-door ice and water. Finn was totally impressed last week that Angie had such an amazing fridge.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I feel your pain. I have the same crappy stove! I can't seem to get rid of it. Two years ago, we finally took the big leap, went to Big Box Store, and bought a ceramic cooktop/stove, but the Big Box Store dicked around on delivering it, and I told them to keep their damn stove. So, I'm still wrestling with the same crappy stove!
Well, get this. Steve took pity on me (probably 'cause I went public) and we went to pick out a new stove yesterday. It's the smooth top and I am out of my mind with excitement. It will be here next week! I think people who complain about cleaning a smooth-top are crazy. Have they never dealt with these drip pans?? Now, I have a sneaky suspicion I may be one of those people in the future, but I will keep a gross drip pan to remind me...I will hide it, of course, and pull it out when needed.
